Vintage Report:
2007 - a very good growing season. After a cool spring and a bit of a late start, the vines
caught up to where they should have been by mid- summer follwed by dry conditions that
existed for the latter half of the season into harvest. The dry late summer meant no problems
with the troublesome fungus diseases. Varietal characteristics developed very well and the
wines are developing intoa very nice vintage overall. All in all a good year!
2008 - Started with a warm winter and early spring and buds opened relatively early. Some
heavy rains in mid-spring deterred fruit set a bit and resulted in a much smaller crop compared
to 2007. However by June the weather was hot and dry and that basically continued
through the summer. By September when harvest arrived the hot, dry weather had given us
excellent ripening conditions, and produced fruit with excellent varietal characteristics. The
young wines from these grapes are already showing very good depth of flavor.
2009 - a dismal growing season by any account. We had about 40% more rain than in a
typical year which fostered conditions for low fruit set, disease and insect issues. It was a
struggle to get through the season keeping our sanity but despite all of the poor weather
we still produced a reasonable crop (except for the pinot grigio which was almost wiped
out!). Time will tell how the wines eventually develop, but they will likely be somewhat
austere given the difficult growing conditions. Stay tuned!
