Viognier is rapidly becoming a star in our vineyard.
Originally planted in 2000, each year it produces better fruit
with distinct characteristics. A native of the Rhone Valley in
France, only a few decades ago there were only a handfull of
acres planted world wide. Recently however it has re-emerged
and, among other places, has been widely planted in the
Mid-Alantic states where it is does very well and where it may
become a "signature" variety in some areas.
It's wine is distinct, with pronounced floral and tropical fruit
aromas and flavors while at the same time possessing a very
"full" mouthfeel with a long finish, which makes it somewhat
unique for a white wine. Our wines made from it have been
wonderful and delicious. We think Viognier has a very
promising future for us and for this region.
